INTRODUCTION
Evolution is widely regarded as the most successful supplier of Live casino game shows on the current market. Whenever they decide to drop a game show, you can be sure all eyes are on the latest release. Especially since they also opted to thrown in a bit of that Lightning flair, which was made famous by hugely successful titles such as Lightning Roulette.
Lightning Storm is as big, bright, and flashy as you would expect it to be. It uses the classic money wheel to provide a straightforward but exciting experience, which has become commonplace for game shows. However, the Storm also has a few surprises that make it stand out from other such games.
Specifically, it essentially randomizes which bonus rounds are triggered by which betting positions. Even if you’re hunting bonuses you never quite know what you’re going to get, which is quite an interesting concept. Beyond that, the game is almost fully focused on its bonus rounds and special features.
HOW TO PLAY LIGHTNING STORM LIVE
The base gameplay is fairly similar to popular games in the genre such as Crazy Time. The presenter spins a big wheel, and players predict which part of the wheel will land on the flap at the top. The wheel is made up of 49 sections. 19 of these are Leaf pockets and the others are numbered from 1 to 20.
In this game, players essentially have 4 betting options. These include:
- Leaf bets, which are straightforward instant win bets with 1:1 odds.
- Numbers, which attempt to trigger one of the game’s five bonus rounds.
- Storm Chaser, which guarantees that you will participate in a Lightning Storm bonus if it triggers in the current rounds.
- X Chaser, which guarantees you a spot in any bonus round that was multiplied by the Lightning round.
The Leaf is basically the only “main” bet in the game. However, Lightning Storm also uses the patented Lightning Round we’ve seen in several Evolution games.
Basically, one or more segments are randomly struck by lightning in every round. This applies a multiplier to all winnings resulting in bets on that wheel segment, ranging from 2x to 50x. This increase also applies to any bonus rounds.
Bonus Rounds
There are 5 bonus rounds in Lightning Storm, each with its own rules and a wide range of possible results. They can only be triggered through the Numbers bets.
Essentially, the bonus rounds are randomly assigned to the numbered wheel segments in every round. For example, the Hot Spot bonus can be attached to number 5 in one round and number 17 in the next round. This happens after the betting period ends, so you have no way of knowing which bonus round ends up where.
If you have an active bet on a winning number that was assigned a bonus in that round, you participate in the corresponding bonus round. There are five options:
- Hot Spot has players pick a random, hidden reward from a 9×12 wall. The biggest prizes are grouped in a single hot spot, but you have no way of knowing which multipliers are hidden behind which position.
- Monster Mash has players roll a small 3-reel slot machine. Each reel reveals a multiplier value, and all three are summed up and paid out as a reward. Some multipliers can be golden, which means they multiply the other values instead of adding to them.
- Battery Charger drops batteries from a belt, each of which is assigned a multiplier. The round ends when the little wheel at the bottom lands on green, awarding you the multiplier on the last battery dropped from the belt. Some batteries can double all remaining prizes instead of providing their own.
- Fireball drops a ball onto a large grid divided into 149 positions. Each position is randomly assigned a multiplier, and the dropped ball determines the winning position.
- Lightning Storm has players pick between one of three positions. Lightning strikes then move across the board and provide multipliers for all three positions. Once the lightning stops, your selected position determines your winnings.
Casino Bloke Best tips for Lightning Storm Live
- 1Most of the bonus rounds in this game are determined and not truly “live.” The only exceptions are the big wheel itself and the Fireball bonus.
- 2The Leaf bet has a significantly higher RTP than the bonus rounds do, which is a shame considering it’s a fairly boring bet.
- 3Like most games of this kind, Lightning Storm is completely chance-based.
The Leaf bet is the only bet in Lightning Storm with a fixed 1:1 payout. The numbers and the two Chaser bets are all about triggering bonuses, which means possible outcomes have a huge range. This is what makes the game so volatile if you’re betting on the numbers.
Every bonus round in this game has a maximum payout of 10,000x your stake. This cap takes into account any possible multipliers from the Lightning round, too. The only exception is the Lightning Storm round, whose rewards can go up to 20.000x.
Also, all payouts in all Evolution games are capped at $500,000, regardless of your initial stake.
Lightning Storm Live RTP sits at 97.44%, but only if you’re playing the Leaf bet. Numbers and X Chaser instead offer 95.13% RTP, while the Storm Chaser offers 95.12%.

LIGHTNING STORM BY EVOLUTION – CASINO BLOKE’S VERDICT
The genre of casino game shows has received a lot of big releases in 2024, and the market is already starting to look saturated. As such, we’re glad to see Evo didn’t just throw out another re-hashed version of Crazy Time. The whole system of assigning random rounds to random numbers feels very unique and makes Lightning Storm clearly stand out.
The bonus rounds themselves are a bit more standard, though. None of them are particularly unique, but they are sufficiently fun and exciting. Compared to other game shows, they also trigger quite often and go by relatively quickly.
All things considered, though, we doubt Lightning Storm will ever be more than a niche game. That’s both a strength and a weakness, though. It might not reach insane levels of popularity, but it’s certainly a must-play for anyone looking for an innovative, unique experience.
