INTRODUCTION
Microgaming French Roulette Gold is an online roulette table developed by one of the iGaming’s industry’s best developers. This is an RNG-powered table, meaning there are no other players or a real dealer. Instead, the wheel is simulated, while a computer calculates all the wheel spins. Despite showing its age graphically, this Microgaming release still has plenty of aces up its sleeve.
A French roulette table doesn’t just mean the game uses French names for bets. It also means players have access to a special La Partage rule only present in French roulette! While there is no race wheel, you can still make neighbour and other special ‘French’ bets. You just have to do it using a menu. The maximum prize you can win is $900 per spin, which you earn by winning the 35:1 Straight number payout.
HOW TO PLAY FRENCH ROULETTE GOLD
The round can’t start without you placing your bets. You do this by selecting a coin value, which is displayed on the table, above the main board. Here, you use arrow keys to pick a coin value between $1 and $25, and then place it on the board as you see fit.
In spite of Microgaming’s French Roulette Gold being old, it still has plenty of quality of life stuff. One of them being that numbers that you will bet on are highlighted. This allows you to check if you want to do that particular wager before committing to a spin. Different tiles and bets have a different allowed maximum bet.
Once you’ve placed all your bets, it’s time to spin! After spinning, the computer will announce a winning number, and grant you a prize if you guessed it right. The type of bet you’ve made determines how much you win. A straight number bet will pay more than correctly guessing that the number was red.
The wheel automatically remember what your last bet was. Therefore, if you want to re-bet, you just have to press Spin again! Alternatively, you can set up a bet and use the Autoplay function. Autoplay is not visible unless you swap to Expert Mode in the game’s user interface.
You can see the developer put a lot of effort into this function. Not only can you control the number of auto spins, but you can also set up win and loss limits! The game even allows you to control the number of seconds between each wheel spin!
PAYOUTS
Despite the myriad of new rules, payouts haven’t changed. Outside bets are still the safer option that pays less. Red/Black, Even/Odd and 1-18/19-36 all pay 1:1 when won. You can also make Dozen and Column wagers, which award a 2:1 prize instead.
If you’re willing to risk it, you can make inside bets. At first, it may not seem like such a big jump. Line and Square bets pay 5:1 and 8:1 when won, respectively. It’s at this point that we get more valuable but risky inside bets. Street scores 11:1 when won. Split bets win a 17:1 prize. Best of all is a Straight number bet, which pays 35:1.

If you can stomach the bad graphics and annoying user interface, it’s well worth playing. Roulette is already a game with a great house edge. By making it even better, Microgaming have guaranteed this release will always have an audience.
