INTRODUCTION
Megaways Slots have become a brand much bigger than its creator Big Time Gaming ever envisioned. The concept of ever-changing reels has been leased out to many software providers over the years. Of course, varied Megaways became even more common once Evolution acquired BTG and used its many studios to further build upon these IPs and ideas. This time around, Red Tiger Gaming came up with a creative, heist-themed Megaways game with spectacular bonus rounds, memorable characters, and a lot of potential for excitement.
As the name implies, Vault Cracker Megaways puts you in charge of a group of enterprising burglars. The task is simple – raid the vault and come out with as much loot as you can carry! The game’s features are all about planning and organizing a successful heist, but be ware – burglars are not known for their cooperative nature, and rivalries are quick to form with this bunch of hotheads.
We can spend a lot of time describing how Ret Tiger Gaming Vault Cracker Megaways brings this theme to life, but suffice it to say that the game’s graphics are on point. A funky theme song and superb sound design are also there to live up the atmosphere. Of course, the way that the game’s features play into the theme are the main advantage, so let’s get on with our review.
HOW TO PLAY VAULT CRACKER MEGAWAYS
Megaways slots all have similar base gameplay. If you never had a chance to try one out, we suggest reading our guide to Megaways. We’ll try to sum things up for you here, though.
Vault Cracker Megaways is played on 6 reels. However, the number of positions on each reel changes with each spin. Any reel may have anywhere between 2 and 7 symbols at any given time, and the exact number is randomized in every turn. Every reel changes with every spin, so the number of possible permutations is huge.
Additionally, Megaways slots have no fixed paylines. Payouts are awarded for successfully hitting three or more matching symbols on three or more adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. A winning combination can contain multiple matching symbols on the same reel, but you still need them present on at least three connected reels. Since the number of positions per reel changes in every round, so does the number of ways you can win. The absolute maximum is 117,649, which happens if all 6 reels have 7 positions each.
On top of all that, the Vault Cracker Megaways slot game uses cascading reels. Winning symbols are removed from the game, and new ones tumble down to replace them from the top.
The special features of this game are largely tied to its colourful cast. There are three of them – the Hold-up Artist, the Heist Master, and the Scarlet Rogue.
The Hold-Up Artist
The Hold-up Artist boasts arguably the simplest interactions in the game.
During the base game, symbols appearing as safes can land on the board. There are three types of safes, ranked in terms of value. Bronze safes award up to 5x your stake, silver ones come with up to 15x, and gold safes can hold prizes up to 30x.
If a Hold-Up Artist hits anywhere on the table, he instantly collects all of the prizes from all safes currently present on the reels. They can be unlocked by the Heist Master as well, which we’ll describe below.
Heist Master Feature
Landing a Heist Master triggers a special bonus feature. All safes are locked in place and the game starts respinning. During these respins, only the safes matter – the only symbols appearing are blanks, safes, the Heist Master, and the Scarlet Rogue. Every time you hit a safe, it sticks to the board and remains in place until the end of the round.
Additionally, a multiplier between 2x and 7x appears above each reel, depending on the number of positions on the reel. The reel with the Heist Master symbol itself does not have a multiplier. These multipliers can only be activated if the entire reel below them is filled with safes, at which point all winnings from the relevant reel are increased.
Interestingly, the Vault Cracker Megaways bonus round does not have a set number of spins. Theoretically, it can keep going forever. The only way to end it is if a Scarlet Rogue symbol hits – the third character in our story. Whenever a Scarlet Rogue hits, she triggers a feature called the Rivalry Wheel. The big win spins, and if the pointer lands on a red segment the bonus round immediately ends. You collect all of the visible safes and any multipliers. If the pointer lands on green, you can keep playing. The more Scarlet Rogue symbols are on the board, the more wheel segments appear as red.
Lastly, you can manually trigger the Hold-up Artist or Heist Master features at any time by clicking the Feature Buy button. The Hold-up Artists costs 10x the bet, while the Heist MAster costs 60x.
Casino Bloke Best tips for Vault Cracker Megaways Slot
- 1Buying any of the features increases the game’s theoretical RTP to 95.71%
- 2Although the respins can theoretically be infinite, the bonus round will most often end after just a few spins.
PAYOUTS & RTP
Vault Cracker Megaways has a very unusual payout structure that may be the game’s biggest issue. We don’t mean how payouts work, of course – your winnings depend entirely on the number and value of the symbols in a winning line. However, the game’s volatility seems a tad strange. On one hand, all Megaways slots are fairly volatile. Most base game wins are tiny, and the idea is to chase big wins.
The problem here is that the maximum payout in Vault Cracker Megaways is just 2,484x. Don’t get us wrong – it’s a nice amount, and it’s more likely to hit than the millions most volatile slots promise. However, 2,5k for a highly volatile, feature-filled Megaways slot in 2023? Most players will be turned away by that fact alone.
The fact that Vault Cracker Megaways RTP is 95.86% doesn’t help things, either. That’s below average in this day and age. It would not have been a major issue if the other elements of the game were more exciting. Alas, RTP is one of the most objective ways to judge a slot game, and Vault Cracker Megaways is a bit lacking.
what we like
- Fun theme with vibrant characters and solid presentation
- Interesting features that fit well into the theme
- Theoretically unlimited respins per bonus round
what we don’t like
- Low base payouts
- Below-average RTP
VAULT CRACKER MEGAWAYS BY RED TIGER GAMING – CASINO BLOKE’S VERDICT
To put things bluntly, our impressions of Vault Cracker Megaways by Red Tiger were mixed.
On one hand, the game is visually impressive and mechanically interesting. We love it when slots manage to tie their theme into the actual game. Moreover, we can see that a lot of work was put into the concept itself. It’s clear Red Tiger didn’t want to just make another Megaways game. They strived to make it their own, and we can safely say they succeeded.
Most of the issues with this game can be explained in a single word – numbers. The maximum payout is disappointing for something as volatile as this. Players who enjoy volatile slots are drawn to massive jackpots, and this simply doesn’t have one. The fact that the RTP is lower than in most new online slots is another glaring problem.
We don’t want to end this Vault Cracker Megaway review on a sour note, though. It’s a well-made game, and it’s not like you’re shooting yourself in the foot just by playing it. However, most of the game’s advantages are merely skin-deep, while the real substance of it is lacking.
