Slot Trumps, a recent project studying the behaviour and preferences of online slot players, produced a report detailing key interest into slot player behaviour.
EveryMatrix, an igaming software provider, partnered with the industry publication igamingbusiness.com to create a unique, insightful look at what players actually want. It’s quite fascinating, all things considered, and highlights some industry trends many experts have been observing for years.
SlotTrumps – What Do Players Want?
It’s no secret that online slots are by far the most popular form of gambling online. Hundreds are released each year, with software providers vying for attention through ever-evolving features, mechanics, themes, and whatever else can be leveraged to attract buzz.
However, EveryMatrix are perhaps the first to go through with a comprehensive study into player behaviour. Here are some of their findings.
- The most popular theme seems to be related to animals, accounting for the preferences of at least 10% of players. Closely behind are fantasy-themed games and classic fruit machines at 7% and 6%, respectively.
- Over 30% of the 20 of the most popular online slots do not even have bonus features. Quite interesting considering most new releases are essentially fighting to have the biggest and most elaborate bonus rounds
- That said, Free Spins as a feature also lengthen the average game session by around 70%, indicating better player retention
- Although more than 60% of players prefer less volatile games, high-volatility titles boast 8 times larger stakes on average
It’s important to note, however, that these findings were largely based on the Brazilian market. Other regions and countries may produce different results.
That said, most of the findings are consistent with player experiences, so the results in other markets are probably not that different.
