INTRODUCTION

One of the most common questions players ask when learning blackjack is when they should double. Clearly, Evolution thought we had it too easy with just one decision. That is why they gave us two more in their latest release, called Power Blackjack. In this live dealer game, casino members can choose to double, triple or quadruple their first two cards. To accommodate this addition, Evolution removed nines and tens from the game.

Because of the removed cards and the ability to triple and quadruple bets, standard blackjack strategy cannot be used. Fortunately, Evolution was kind enough to develop their own Power Blackjack strategy. Using it, you can expect an RTP of 98.80%, which is lower than traditional blackjack. The game also has four side bets: Hot 3, 21+3, Any Pair and Bust It.

HOW TO PLAY LIVE POWER BLACKJACK

Every round starts with a short time to place your bets. During this time, players can wager on the main bet and all available side bets. All wagers you want to play must be placed before the timer runs out. Once it expires, no additional bets can be placed. At this point, the dealer will start drawing cards and the round proceeds.

Four cards are drawn. Two are dealt to players, and two are dealt to the dealer. Casino members can see both their cards, and the host’s first card. However, their second card remains in a face down position, preventing us from knowing what the dealer’s hand is. Once all cards are dealt, you can choose to hit, stand, split, double, triple or quadruple. Choose what you want to play, then wait for the timer to tick down.

The dealer will then reveal their second card. Depending on the host’s hand, they may have to draw additional cards. Both sides win by getting 21. If neither side gets 21 exactly, than the side closest to it wins the round. Going over 21 is called busting, and results in an automatic loss. If you get exactly 21 with your first two cards, you score a blackjack win. It pays more than standard wins, so keep an eye out for them!

EXTRA FEATURES

As we already mentioned, Evolution’s Live Power Blackjack allows us to triple and quadruple alongside doubling. They play the exact same way as a double, too. That means you only draw one more card after choosing to triple or quadruple your bet. You can also use tripling and quadrupling on split hands. In order to make this feature work, Evolution removed all nine and tens from this release.

Outside of that, the game features four familiar side bets. Any Pair grants players a cash prize if their first two cards form a pair. How much you win depends on the type of pair that is drawn. Any Pair has an RTP of 96.58%.

  • Pair – 7:1
  • Suited Pair – 20:1

21+3 combines the player’s first two cards and the dealer’s visible card into a three-card poker hand. How much you win from this side bet depends on what kind of poker hand is formed. The RTP for this side bet is 96.09%.

  • Flush – 5:1
  • Straight – 8:1
  • Three of a kind – 25:1
  • Straight Flush – 35:1
  • Suited Trips – 100:1

Hot 3 works in a similar way to 21+3. However, it does not combine the three visible cards into poker hands. Instead, it tries to form numbers 19, 20 and 21. Hot 3’s RTP is 96.21%.

  • 19 – 1:1
  • 20 – 2:1
  • Unsuited 21 – 4:1
  • Suited 21 – 20:1
  • 7-7-7 – 100:1

Last but certainly not least is Bust It. This side bet pays when the dealer busts. The more cards the dealer draws before busting, the better the reward. This side bet comes with an RTP of 94.71%.

  • Three card bust – 1:1
  • Four card bust – 2:1
  • Five card bust – 8:1
  • Six card bust – 25:1
  • Seven card bust – 100:1
  • Eight or more card bust – 250:1

PAYOUTS

In terms of payouts, Evolution’s Live Power Blackjack works the same way as standard blackjack tables. Regular wins pay 1:1, while blackjack wins pay 3:2. If you choose to play an insurance bet, it pays 2:1. However, we would recommend skipping insurance bets altogether due to its low chance of winning.

what we like

  • Numerous blackjack side bets
  • You can triple and quadruple your bets
  • 250:1 top prize

what we don’t like

  • Nines and tens are removed from all decks
  • Standard RTP is lower than regular blackjack

LIVE POWER BLACKJACK (EVOLUTION): CASINOBLOKE’S VERDICT

We would love to come here and sing the praises of Live Power Blackjack. We would be lying if it did not have its interesting aspects. Being able to triple and quadruple wins is quite fun. However, removing nines and tens lowers the RTP below standard blackjack tables. While this title is fantastic for a fun time, we would recommend sticking to regular live blackjack for long-term play.
