INTRODUCTION
The Millionaire-Maker slot game is back again, promising to bring head-spinning jackpots to the acclaimed Megaways model. To the uninitiated, Mega Moolah is a series of progressive online slots that all share one big prize pot. The grand prize often raches millions of euros, and more than a few lucky players won dizzying amounts in the past. It has a pretty long history, too, with the original Mega Moolah slot dating back to 2006. Several other Moolah-brand slot games have been released in the past, such as Absolootly Mad. Microgaming started the series and immediately found success, and now the long tradition has been passed down to Games Global who bought out Microgaming a few years ago.
Long story short, a studio called Gamesburger, which is part of the Games Global network, was tasked with bringing two beloved brands together. The first is the whole Mega Moolah deal, which maintains decades-long popularity thanks to its promise of paying out huge jackpots. The other is Megaways, a BTG-created feature that is all about changing the number of positions per reel for each spin. Both brands have long and respected histories, and both found great success with audiences worldwide. When you put it that way, it wouldn’t make sense not to combine them.
Mega Moolah Megaways offers access to the massive progressive pots of Mega Moolah while also having the exciting gameplay of Megaways. Be warned, though, as both of these brands also have downsides. On one hand, Megaways almost always make a slot game supremely volatile – which is also the case with progressive jackpots. Mega Moolah funds its huge jackpots by having a large chunk of every bet go directly into the pot. This, in turn, results in rather dismal RTP.
Still, fans of Mega Moolah slot games probably don’t want to miss this release. Our Mega Moolah Megaways slot review will tell you everything you need to know about the game, including its upsides and downsides.
HOW TO PLAY MEGA MOOLAH MEGAWAYS
The Megaways mechanic works as usual, though the math model was changed to account for the progressive features. Nevertheless, anyone who ever played a Megaways game will immediately know how it works. We’ll go over the main points for anyone interested, though, and you can also read our guide to Megaways slot games.
This kind of slot machine has two main features. The first is the fact that the number of symbols on a single reel changes with every spin. A single reel can show anywhere between 2 and 7 symbols, and this number changes on every reel with every spin. Secondly, there are no fixed paylines in Megaways. Winning lines are created by hitting three or more matching symbols on at least three adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost one.
If you combine these two features, you’ll realize that the number of possible ways to win changes on every spin as well. Up to 117,649 ways are possible if you’re lucky enough to see all 6 reels show 7 symbols each.
Additionally, the Mega Moolah Megaways online slot adds another twist to the base game – cascading reels. Although called Rolling Reels in Games Global slots, the idea is the same – winning symbols are removed from the reels, and the symbols above them tumble down into the now-empty positions. New symbols also fall from the top to replace any removed ones. This allows you to make multiple consecutive wins with a single spin.
Mega Moolah Megaways also uses Wild symbols, which can substitute for any regular-paying symbol in the game. They also affect your chances of triggering jackpots – see below for more info.
On top of all that, reels 2-5 have an additional row above them. There’s nothing really special about this row, except that it essentially gives these reels an additional symbol at all times.
Mega Moolah Megaways Free Spins
Scatter symbols in this game look like golden letters spelling out the word GOLD. Spell out the whole word, and you win 12 free spins for Mega Moolah Megaways. If there are more than 4 scatters on the grid when the feature triggers, you win an additional +2 spins per additional Scatter.
Every win during free spins increases a running reel multiplier by +1. This multiplier affects all subsequent wins made using free spins and lasts until you have no more free spins. On top of all that, you can win 5 or 10 additional spins by hitting 3 or 4 Scatters, respectively. However, Scatters only appear on the special top row above reels 2-5, which complicates things.
Mega Moolah Megaways Progressive Jackpot
There’s one thing that makes Mega Moolah so popular, and it’s undoubtedly the jackpot. At the time we’re wiring this review, the Mega jackpot is well over €12 million, so you can guess what the excitement is all about.
Essentially, 5.3% of every bet in the game contributes to a progressive jackpot. The more people play the game, the more the pot grows. The Jackpot wheel then allows players a shot to win one of four pots, which pays out everything that has been collected in that jackpot since it was won last time.
There are four types of jackpots in the game – Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega. The bigger jackpots hit a lot less often than the smaller ones, which means that they can grow to huge amounts.
To win the jackpot in Mega Moolah Megaways, you have to be lucky enough to trigger the jackpot wheel. This can happen on any spin. When it does, a large wheel with 20 segments appears on the screen. It spins, and you win a jackpot based on the outcome. For obvious reasons, hitting a Mini or Minor jackpot is much more likely because they cover 10 and 6 segments of the wheel, respectively. Major jackpots appear in three segments, while the coveted Mega Moolah jackpot is only on a single segment.
There’s no real way to predict when the jackpot will hit, but there are ways to increase your chances. Firstly, all Wilds that hit during gameplay are collected and increase your chances of triggering the jackpot wheel. Additionally, the probability of the wheel appearing scales with the size of your stake. The bigger the stake, the better your odds of winning a Mega Moolah Megaways jackpot.
Casino Bloke Best tips for Mega Moolah Megaways Slot
- 1High-contribution jackpot slots like Mega Moolah are for true thrill-seekers. The game’s RTP is horrible by most standards, but it gives you a shot at the tasty jackpot.
- 2This kind of trade-off appeals to some players, but isn’t recommended for everyone. Beginners should especially remember that winning a jackpot is highly unlikely, and that RTP as low as this can burn through a lot of money very quickly with little to no returns.
- 3As with all progressive slots, it’s recommended to play the game only after the pot grows as much as possible. Avoid playing it right after someone collects the Major and/or Mega jackpots.
PAYOUTS & RTP
The high number of potential ways to win, combined with the Rolling Reels feature, means that most standard wins are very small. You hit often enough, and even chaining together 2-3 payouts through tumbling symbols is relatively easy. However, most wins won’t even cover the initial stake, which is something to keep in mind.
Of course, the searing volatility of Mega Moolah Megaways from Gamesburger is nothing compared to the jackpot feature. Yes, the winnings can make you an overnight millionaire, but remember that the chances of that happening are minuscule. Thankfully, the prospect of winning millions attracts a lot of players, which means the progressive jackpots grow quickly.
In short, the maximum payout of Mega Moolah Megaways depends on how big the jackpot is at that time.
On the other hand, the 5% fee applied to all bets means that the average RTP of the base slot game is horrible. Specifically, Mega Moolah Megaways RTP is 86.70%. This is true for all Mega Moolah games because such a large percentage of your stake goes directly to the pot.

MEGA MOOLAH MEGAWAYS BY GAMEBURGER AND GAMES GLOBAL – CASINO BLOKE’S VERDICT
Mega Moolah Megaways is a solid slot game that will probably find a lot of interested players. Having said that, it’s fairly simple as far as modern online slots go.
In fact, everything the game is about is right there in the title. It’s a Mega Moolah progressive slot with Megaways. No more, no less. The Megaways themselves are quite rudimentary, as much as such a major feature can be. Compared to most other recent Megaways slots, it’s rather threadbare.
To be frank, though, that’s what most fans of progressive features in slots are looking for anyway. A big eight-figure pot is all you really need, while the slot machine itself is merely a way of getting to it. Although it’s regrettable that Gamesburger didn’t try to innovate with these ideas a bit more, it’s understandable that they took a more subtle approach.
What you see is what you get with this game, and we can’t fault it for that. If you want a shot at the massive prize in a Megaways flavour, feel free to play it. If you’re looking for an engaging and interesting online slot game, though, there are better options.
